I bought this inexpensive hood as an accessory for my Canon HF-100 video camera. If Canon made it, it would have cost $50 at least. I wanted something to reduce the glare when filming outdoors, and provide some extra protection for the lens area. The hood is not visible at the widest angle of my standard lens, but I don't know if that's still true for those of you who bought the add-on wide angle lens. It does obstruct the video light (which is harsh and too bright anyway). Nothing really lost there. It was very easy to attach to the threads on the front of the camera... it has a rotating disc that can be tightened without rotating the whole hood. This makes it easy to keep the hood perfectly horizontal, with the written text on the hood in your preferred orientation (top or bottom). In terms of size, I think this is a perfect complement to my little camera. Together with my external mic (Canon DM-100) it looks like I have a miniature professional video camera. Wait... I do!
